Community Development Project
The non-profit organization Chennai Best NGO Myrtle Social Welfare Network adopted its first intervention in 2012 at Attrambakkam Irular colony and after a heavy Chennai flood disaster in 2015 Myrtle extended relief support to 12 irular tribe villages in Poondi block, Tiruvallur district, over the years we found there is a need for a Community Development Centre for the welfare of Irula Tribal community. So with the support of philanthropists we have constructed 1350 sq ft building community hall in the ground floor(photo enclosed). The community centre land 10888 square feet has donated by our Managing Trustee Ms. Saral Shanthini for the welfare of Irula Tribal Community at Govindarajakuppam, Attrambakkam Village – Poondi Block, Tiruvallur District which will serve 10 nearby villages directly. Myrtle has built a strong relationship with the villagers and local leaders during these years. The following activities happening at the Centre.
- Periodical camps, retreats, summer schools, sports events for Remedial centres children to inculcate knowledge, motivation, and life skill trainings.
- Periodical Medical camp for children and community.
- Social work colleges rural camp and Interns intervention.
- Provided 20 kg dry ration kit to 2680 families, 5000 Active Horlicks 500gms, 5000 Bata footwear provided through different donors.
- Provided 30 oxygen concentrators 5000 RTPCR kit to Tiruvallur Government Hospital – Handed over to the Tiruvallur collector Dr. Alby John Varghese.
Apart from the above activities Myrtle adopted 10 Irula Tribal villages and established 10 remedial centres, here 10 community worker cum tuition teachers are inculcating knowledge in the lives of 325 students. Every day in the remedial centre we provide nutritional snacks like Cooked Chenna, Peanuts, Karamani, Double Beans etc., to all the 325 students in 10 irula tribal villages, which is addressing the malnutrition among the tribal community children and the outcome is school dropouts addressed.
